It is noted that SWOT was developed by NASA and the French Space Agency (CNES) with the participation of Canadian and British space agencies.
It was included as a recommended mandate in the 2007 National Research Council 10-year survey.
The satellite is designed to study changes in global water levels and transmit unprecedentedly detailed three-dimensional volume data about Earth’s oceans and millions of lakes and rivers every 21 days.
