If we recapped the release of Vivaldi 5.6 for PC last week and, things being, it wasn’t an exciting release, in the usual browser line, Vivaldi 5.6 for Android Yes, it is to a greater extent, although it is normal for mobile news to come with less momentum.
If the big news in the PC version was the integration with Vivaldi Social, an instance of Mastodon, in the mobile version it is also noticeable, but much less: the new icon on the Speed Dial is the only thing that is perceived in this sense. Surplus. You are also added as a new optional search engine.
However, the big news of Vivaldi 5.6 for Android is customizing the menu bar, whose preference is found in “Settings> General> Menu Settings (“translation coming, yes). There are three models that can be applied with a click, and if you want something different, you can customize it by dragging.
The menu bar, in case it needs to be pointed out, is the one that appears at the top of the app menu.
The good thing is that almost all dropdown options can be added there, so if one is widely used, it is more available. There are the ones you would expect and many more (translation, computer view, page capture…) so very good.
Vivaldi 5.6 for Android also improves its security by providing a browser support for hardware authentication keys. It’s not a very popular feature among regular users, but if you have one of these USB-C devices, know that Vivaldi is compatible.
Other new features in Vivaldi 5.6 for Android include the ability to auto-focus and display the keyboard in the address bar when opening a new tab, improved keyboard accessibility in the site identification process, some preferences have been reorganized, visual bookmarks can now be made smaller, hints have been moved to improved visibility (although they can be placed where they’ve always been, below the address bar)…
That and a bunch of fixes, as well as everything that comes with the base Chromium 108, is in this new version of Vivaldi. It’s not bad at all.
