American chip maker Intel is hesitant to start factory construction in Germany.
This has been reported by MDR, Ukrinform reports.
Intel had planned to begin construction of the two factories in Magdeburg in the first half of 2023, but there has been speculation that construction will begin as it has not yet given a date.
The media reported that the company will invest 17 billion euros in both facilities, while the state has promised to allocate 6.8 billion euros as a subsidy on its part.
However, the German side still has not transferred the money, so they say that the American manufacturer will not announce a construction start date until it receives the subsidies.
Saxony-Anhalt’s economy minister, Sven Schulze, expects the EU to decide on financing in the first quarter of 2023.
At the same time, it is reported that the cost of the project increased to 20 billion euros, so Intel asked the German government to increase subsidies.
In November, Intel purchased 430 hectares of land for a planned factory complex in the Eulenberg industrial park in Magdeburg for over 100m euros. Now the object is being prepared for construction. Among other things, the protected hamsters living in this area have already moved overland to the Leipzig Zoo.
