Google, Apple and Mozilla are developing a new benchmark for browsers

Google, Apple and Mozilla have agreed to jointly develop a new tool to test the speed of browsers. The project called Speedometer 3 should help evaluate the performance of browsers from different perspectives.

The new system should simulate normal user actions, allowing a fairly accurate assessment of browser performance. Currently the project is just started, so it is not recommended to use it for tests. After all, among other things, the Speedometer 3 is still unstable.

According to the description on GitHub, the new test suite will be able to test the performance of browser engines, WebKit, Quantum and Blink, as well as Google V8 and Mozilla SpiderMonkey JS engines.

It is not yet known when a working version will be released, but the developers claim that having such a test will improve all browsers in general. Note that Speedometer version 2.0 was released in 2018, developed by the creators of Safari. The current version today is 2.1.
