Steam lists two unreleased Macs

In the absence of official communication, benchmarks, certifications and usage surveys are on many occasions great sources of information about what is to come. And as much as manufacturers try to maintain secrecy, there are certain steps that cannot be done with as much privacy as they would like, for the comfort of those of us who report on these matters. Whether it’s a new Mac, a graphics card that hasn’t hit the market yet, or a processor that will take a few months to see the light of day, being able to stay ahead of the game is always exciting.

So there are people who are able to constantly revise the websites where these “occurrences” are usually documented, and to their persistence we owe in many cases the ability to predict the communication plans of technology companies. Unsurprisingly, along with inside leaks, this is another great source of information from which advancements are fueled. You have been able to convince yourself of this on many occasions in our news, and it will certainly be the case in the future.

Today we have a new case with a look two unreleased Macs have appeared in Steam’s hardware survey. You can see them in this list, where they occupy the second-to-last and third-to-last positions, just above VirtualMac2,1, the virtualization platform that allows running macOS, Apple’s computer operating system. They are Mac14.6 and Mac15.4 models.

We can quickly deduce that these are prototypes of Apple computers that will be released soon, sometime in 2023, and that among the battery of tests they are subjected to is the execution of some titles available on Steam. Apple has been looking to improve its gaming position for some time now, so this type of test fits perfectly with what we understand is happening in the Apple Park labs.

When it comes to these two Macs specifically, some theories suggest that we could be in for a new Mac Mini or a new Mac Studio, but without categorically denying it, the number that accompanies its name seems to be a clear reference to the size in inches. its screen, so it’s more likely that we’re facing two new MacBooks that could come out between March and April next year, maybe the 15-inch MacBook Air we talked about a few days ago? Now I repeat the usual, and we are talking about Apple, so anything is possible. In that regard, it’s a shame that these sheets don’t provide more information that would allow us to try to determine which MacBook family it belongs to.
