The Volkswagen ID.Buzz was awarded the Best Connected Car at the TPNET 2022 Awards for reviving one of the brand’s great traditions in electric mobility by offering a van that emulates the famous Type 2 or Transporter that revolutionized the 1950s. automotive market with its casual design and practicality. It is a an important development in the electrification strategy from a German manufacturer.
This model is inspired by its design along the lines of the aforementioned T2 and is included in the range of Volkswagen electric cars of the ID series with mechanical mechanics analogous to the rest of its members with an engine o 204 horses. The battery with a capacity of 77 kWh offers an approved autonomy of 418 kilometers, which will, as always, depend on the type of driving.
Curiously, the original Type 2 van took advantage of having the engine located at the rear to take full advantage of the chassis, as it didn’t take up space up front. This allowed for a spacious and versatile cabin very much in line with what the new ID.Buzz offers. Like its predecessor, the engine takes up less space and the batteries located on the floor are not a problem when it comes to maximum use of the interior.
This translates to five spacious seats and a trunk with a volume of 1,121 liters. The seats can be configured and the rear ones can be moved longitudinally and even folded completely, offering great interior versatility. The design lines of the interior are very clean and modern with a casual use of interior colors and upholstery. The information system screen has a diagonal of 12 inches, and the instrument screen has the same 5.3-inch diagonal as the rest of the range. Inside we can find up to eight USB sockets and many places to store items.
This ID.Buzz has been designed to move nimbly around town with a very tight turning radius and its wheelbase makes mobility remarkable for a van of this size. One of the most interesting updates incorporated into this model compared to the rest of the range is the update to the battery charging system.
It is the first ID to allow a 170 kW DC load, which would allow charge your battery from 5 to 80% in 30 minutes. An interesting system is also incorporated Plug&Charge making it unnecessary to use the app to start charging at a public charger. The charger and the car are connected and charging will start automatically (if we are registered in the network of chargers).
Also interesting is the two-way charging system, which allows the car not only to receive electric current to charge the battery, but is also able to supply energy in such a way that it could practically function as a battery, for example using this energy at home for hours. in which electricity is less available.
