We’ve been waiting a long time for a new strategy from Google to strengthen Android’s presence in the tablet market to compete more effectively with the segment leader, Apple with its iPads. One measure was the release of Android 12L, a special version of Android designed to meet the needs of both foldable phones and electronic tablets, and is expected to be released above Android 13.
Another part of this dynamic must bring own brand hardware, the Google Pixel Tablet, whose development was confirmed at the Google I/O 2022 conference and whose brushstrokes we have been seeing in recent months. Now, some images posted on the Facebook Marketplace listing give us an idea of what to expect, at least in terms of concept.
The Google Pixel Tablet won’t just be a tablet, it will be smart home device functions once connected to a docking station that will be sold together. Simply put, it can turn into a Google Nest Hub display by connecting the device to a compatible dock, which is expected to be sold together.
The images show what the dock looks like next to a rather chunky tablet with thick bezels that we assume will be shortened in the retail version. You can also see the front camera located in the center of the screen and the size around 11 inches as we already knew. It is not known whether the multi-touch panel will be OLED or LCD. It will depend on the selling price and the target market that Google wants to cover.
As for the internal hardware, it is certain that the tablet will be powered by the Google Tensor variant, own SoC Created in-house by the internet giant for the Pixel 6, along with storage capacities of 128 and 256 GB, which are enough for tablet use. It would also offer state-of-the-art connectivity features such as WiFi 6 and certainly a special version with broadband support 5G. It would also include typical accessories such as Universal Stylus Initiative (USI) 2.0 cases and stylus pens that would come standard with the device.
As for the software, Google is known to be testing a version Android 13 64-bit only for a device codenamed “Tangor” believed to correspond to this custom tablet. Among the benefits of stopping 32-bit app support is that it would reduce the codebase needed for this Pixel’s optimized Android, as well as usage like memory. The Google Pixel tablet will be released in 2023. Certainly in the first quarter.
