Apple’s self-repair program is expanding a bit. With this program, it is now possible to repair many of Apple’s desktop products in-house, including new products like the iMac with M1 processor, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and even Apple Studio Display, but only in the United States.

This news means that if you’re a tech-savvy person, you can now purchase specially designed parts and tools for repairing these Mac desktop products, as well as official manuals directly from Apple. It also comes weeks after Apple expanded its Self-Service Repair Program to the UK and Europe, allowing regular self-service iPhone and MacBook repairs on Apple processors. Apple previously expanded the program in the US to include M1 MacBook models in August.

At least here in the United States, this brings the total number of Apple products covered by the program to nine. In addition to M1 MacBook Air, M1 MacBook Pro, Mac Studio, M1 Mac Mini, M1 iMac, and Studio Display, you can repair iPhone SE, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 yourself. There’s no word yet on when European Mac desktop markets will fall under Apple’s Self-Service Repair Program, but it could take several weeks or months, according to plan.

Since Apple launched its Self-Service Repair Program in April of this year, many rival companies have followed suit with similar offerings. For example, if you have a Samsung phone, you can repair the Galaxy S21 and S20 series yourself, thanks to their partnership with iFixit. Even Microsoft has made it easy for professionals with repair shops to repair Surface PCs by offering tools to authorized service providers that can speed up the process of repairing a broken device. This is a big win for anyone who doesn’t want to send their device in for repair and is brave enough to do something on their own.
