“Modern Ukrainian digital and media art is like an imprint of the times we live in, a reminder of what we are fighting for, as a response to the awareness of what is already happening, as a vision of cause and effect. Today we are witnessing an unprecedented real-time warfare because never before in human history “Ukrainian artists, actively responding to events in society, focus on war and document it in their works,” said Valery Korshunov, curator of the digital and media art biennial.
From December 21 to 25, the art of new technologies, combined with the general theme “30 Years of Freedom”, will be presented at the Museum and Exhibition Center of the Kyiv City History Museum.
For 5 days, viewers will be able to meet the art of new technologies such as VR, AR, video art and NFT exhibitions by artists from more than 10 countries united in the common theme of “30 years of Freedom”. Unusual bright works will be interesting for both adults and children.
As the organizers noted, more than 7,500 visitors came to meet the trends in world art during the first Ubiennial, despite the quarantine restrictions. Some of the works presented at the First Biennale of Digital and Media Art to be held in Kiev in 2021 will also be seen this time. The audience can also see new works by Ukrainian artists dedicated to the war.
The event will be accompanied by a professional discussion panel with artists and curators from Ukraine, Spain, Germany, France, Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
On 22 December, a public discussion will be held with the participation of the Biennial curator Valery Korshunov, Czech curators Pavel Smetana, France Natalya Velikanova, Spain Yuriy Leh, Ukraine Mykhailo Barabash, Korshunova Svitlana (Ubiennial producer). and representatives of the Zvit art association.
“In the coming years, interest in Ukrainian art and culture will increase. And not only because of the war, but also because of the status of a candidate country for EU membership. Therefore, we must integrate: through our culture and art we must express ourselves, listen to others and at intersections – common values make our future relations great. “We must build within the framework of a European family. And if we want to appeal to a modern audience, this must be the language of modern digital and New Media art,” the curators of the exhibition are confident.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Goethe-Institut through the Culture and Education Stabilization Fund 2022.
The Ubiennale will be held from December 21 to 25 at the Museum and Exhibition Center of the Kyiv City History Museum.
