Apple has introduced a new technology to recycle smartphones to use the resulting materials. Currently, the company’s products contain almost 20% recycled material, a record for the company.

The smartphone maker started using recycled gold to cover the boards and cables of the iPhone 13 and iPhone13 Pro in 2021.

This became possible thanks to the function of replacing old devices with new ones – after that the device was disassembled in order to use the material in new models. Apple shared an interesting statistic – a ton of mobile phones can contain 80 times more gold than a ton of rock mined from a gold mine.

Against the background of these statements, the company introduced a new machine for recycling devices called Taz. The innovation will remove the rarer earth elements by separating the magnets from the sound modules. Apple has also upgraded the Daisy recycling robot, which can now disassemble 23 iPhone models.
