Lightness and therefore also accuracy are one of the most important aspects when deciding on this or that gaming device. At Genesis, they know this, which is why the main claim of the Genesis Xenon 800 is its lightness. We’ve previously had the opportunity to review devices from other brands, such as the Genesis RX85 RGB, and they’ve always left us with very good feelings.
The Xenon 800 is part of the Genesis Xenon series, which consists of 5 devices, all of which are focused on gaming and at a relatively low price.

After opening the box, we find a mouse, a second replaceable panel, 12 weights of 2g each and instructions for use. The two interchangeable panels differ in that one of them is solid and the other with holes, a honeycomb structure that we are already very used to in this type of device, which provides lightness and is the worst nightmare for people with trypophobia. Even if you put the fixed panel on, the sides of the Xenon 800 also have these holes, but they are much less visible. Also, whether you like the aesthetics or not, it’s true that the difference in weight is noticeable.
An important detail is that this option to replace the panel, in addition to allowing you to change the weight and even the aesthetics of the mouse, helps to clean it more easily from the inside without having to remove the screws.
It has a matte black finish, quite soft and RGB lighting on the back and on the steering wheel. In addition to the hex hole finishes we mentioned earlier on the sides, top (if you’re using this panel) and bottom. It also has a 1.8-meter cable made of cord-type fabric, more flexible and lighter, so it is quite comfortable when moving with the mouse.
In addition, the bottom part has Teflon supports that help the Xenon 800 slide better, which is especially useful during fast movements. The package also includes a spare package in black. And since we flipped the mouse, we found a switch that allows us to quickly switch between 125, 500 and 1000 Hz. In my case, I’ve mostly configured this feature via software, so it seems like an option for me, expendable.
Thanks to the trypophobic holes we mentioned, the Xenon 800 reduces its weight to a maximum of only 58 grams, making it one of the lightest mice on the market. In this way, it offers complete control and very fast movements, especially when it comes to aiming and accuracy in video games.
Its ergonomics are specially designed for right-handed users, for the way the fingers are arranged on the mouse to make the grip safer and more stable and above all to be comfortable for hours and hours of use.
Inside the Xenon 800 we find the PMW3389 sensor, which Genesis presents as one of the best available on the market. This sensor guarantees a high level of accuracy and speed, again a feature specially designed for the player’s profile. The sensor features a resolution of up to 16,000 DPI, an acceleration of 50 G and a speed that reaches 400 IPS (inches per minute).
In addition to all the specs we’ve discussed that help the mouse move and glide in the best possible way, we had the chance to test it with its best companion, the Carbon 700 Maxi Cordura. This pad is made of durable and water-repellent fabric, very useful if you are a little clumsy and spill coffee on your computer.
It has a synthetic surface finish, on which the mouse slides very well, and thanks to its large dimensions (920×420 mm), it perfectly covers the space for the keyboard and mouse, and also provides extra protection for your desk.
However, if your profile is not so gamer and you also want to use a mouse for work, you’ll be happy to know that the Xenon 800 is quite versatile. Thanks to the solid case and weights, you can increase the 58g we mentioned to a total of 79g, a load that a more casual user might be more used to. Similarly, sensitivity ranges from 200 to 16,000 DPI (dots per inch), so your cursor will only travel at the speed of light if you want it to.
As for the buttons, we have a total of 6: the classic left and right, click wheel, another just below it and two on the left, on one side. All are programmable using Xenon800 specific software. In addition to two other programmable options, scrolling above and below the wheel, we would have a total of 8 programmable shortcuts.
It has Omron switches on the left and right buttons that have a lifespan of up to 20 million clicks, so we have a mouse for a few years.
As for the wheel button that allows us to change the DPI at any time, in the box we find an extra spare button and two others in red that allow us to change the height and, of course, the color.
But if we really want to get the most out of the Xenon 800, its dedicated software is essential. With it, we can configure the device to the smallest detail: create different profiles with different button programming; set the sensitivity of the mouse and even in two different axes if we want it (vertical and horizontal); set different lighting effects; adjust different speeds, such as double-clicking or scrolling, among others; and finally configure macros that will be very useful for gaming sessions.
The software also allows you to configure the LOD (Launch Distance) in 3 levels, so you can have more control over the cursor when playing with low DPI. This way, you won’t have to lift the mouse in the air to interrupt unwanted cursor movement.
One thing we noticed is that the software is not in Spanish and lacks to fine tune the customization for users who are not that fluent in English.
The Genesis Xenon 800 is a mouse specifically aimed at gaming, both for technical specifications and software, but its versatility makes it a very good work partner. A device with good technical specifications, quality workmanship, good ergonomics and extensive customization options that will meet the expectations of a wide range of users.
Right now, the Genesis Xenon 800 mouse can be purchased on the Genesis website in retail channels for a price €42.99 and the Carbon 700 Maxi Cordura mat from €34.99.
