Valve Corporation, owner of the well-known online gaming platform Steam, has resumed paying Ukrainian video game developers.
According to Ukrinform, this was announced on Telegram by the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.
“Valve has resumed payments to Ukrainian developers. In response to my letter, the company announced the establishment of a system for obtaining the necessary information about the intermediary bank from our Ukrainian partners and including it in the payment system,” the minister said.
Earlier, the online platform for the digital distribution of computer games and programs owned by the company Steam announced the suspension of all payments to developers, not only from Russia, Belarus, but also from Ukraine.
According to Fedorov, since the beginning of the war, no other digital distribution platform has stopped payments to Ukrainian users. As a result of Valve’s actions, video game developers from Ukraine were left without income, which is especially important at the moment.
As reported, Rovio, the studio that created the Angry Birds series, announced the suspension of its activities in Russia and Belarus. The company’s games have already been discontinued on Google Play and the App Store. In-game purchases are also disabled. Future updates will not be available in Russia and Belarus.
Previously, Supercell had removed all of its games, including Brawl Stars, from its app stores in Russia and Belarus. The mobile version of Minecraft has also become unusable in Russia.
As Ukrinform reports, Apple Pay is no longer available in Russia, but also Sony has discontinued the PlayStation Store and stopped supplying consoles to Russia. Also last week, CD Projekt, the developer of Cyberpunk 2077, Electronic Arts and some other developers, announced that it has blocked the sale of its games and content in Russia and Belarus.
