In 14 years, Canada will completely stop selling new cars with internal combustion engines.

As Ukrinform reports, this was announced by the Canadian Ministry of Environment.

He submitted for public discussion a draft resolution establishing strict quotas for the sale of new passenger cars.

“The new legal framework will require at least 20% of new cars purchased in Canada to be zero emissions by 2026. There should be 60% of such cars by 2030 and 100% by 2035,” the report says.

The ministry added that these quotas should “help increase supply so that more Canadians looking to buy electric cars can do so.”

It was noted that in case of violation of the quotas by the dealers, significant fines could be imposed on them.

In addition, the Canadian government has expanded subsidies for electric vehicles and has promised to significantly expand the network of charging stations.

The proposal to introduce quotas will be open to public opinion for 75 days and the final decision will be made next year.

Let us remind you that a complete ban on the sale of gasoline and diesel cars is one of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s pre-election promises. Overall, the transportation industry is responsible for a quarter of all harmful emissions in Canada.
