The competition between voice assistants is really big and those responsible for Samsung Bixby are fully aware of it. We’re talking about a market where Siri, Alexa, and Google’s voice assistant share the vast majority of the cake, leaving only a few crumbs for the rest of the tech companies, who are trying their own designs to ensure more diversity with different approaches. , various integration solutions, etc.

This personally seems very positive to me, because the greater the variety of offers, the greater the chance of finding the one that best suits your needs. Of course, this does not mean that the market should be saturated with options, because even this is not a positive thing, because normally, in many of these cases, even most of them do not contribute anything concrete, and therefore only add confusion to the process. of choice by users.

The problem, of course, is that the work that Amazon, Apple and Google are doing is simply exceptional. The AI-based voice assistants developed by these three technologies have set the bar very high, and we must add that due to their dominant position in the market, they are the first choice for many users if they have a choice. . The conditions under which they compete are terribly difficult.

And this seems to be the situation with Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant, which debuted in early 2017 with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and which arrived in our country almost two years later, at the end of 2018. During these years, Samsung worked to encourage more users to use this assistant, but practically from the beginning it was possible to verify that its adoption was in the minority, so the Korean technology company cut corners on the devices, for example by removing the physical button that the shortcut to Bixby offered.

And now, as we can read in Android Police, it already exists some signs that Samsung is considering ending BixbyGiven the impossibility of getting it to compete head-to-head with the major voice assistants, both in terms of market share and effectiveness, because from what I’ve been told by some people who have used it without being bad, it’s not quite up to par height of other options.

The problem is that the management of the voice assistant system provides a lot of information about the users, which is more than interesting for the companies responsible for these services. This. This is, of course, why many companies are interested in this sector and why they choose to continue their efforts even when things seem to be failing. But of course in these cases the situation cannot be dragged out indefinitely, sooner or later the time will close. Will this be the case with Bixby in 2023? It is still too early for that, but of course we cannot rule it out.
