Will Death Stranding be Epic Games’ Christmas present?

Those who read me regularly already know that I find Death Stranding to be a gem, one of the best games to be made in recent years and yet another display of Hideo Kojima’s genius. And no, I’m not denying that in addition to being a genius, he’s also extremely bizarre, eccentric, or however you want to define it, but that doesn’t mean he’s known how to make history over the years. in the world of video games and continue to do so today.

It’s true that when Death Stranding came out, memes circulated on social media like there was no tomorrow. Among them, the one that became the most popular was called “Glovo Simulator”, in reference to the popular home delivery company, since one of the basic mechanics of the game consists in picking up packages and delivering them to the recipients. Of course, we’ve also seen the same mechanic in other contexts, but it’s true that this seems to be the closest thing to an autonomous vendor. Thankfully, no one in the game leaves a note on your door asking you to take a trash bag to the dumpster while you’re there, another example of how reality is always stranger than fiction.

Another controversy that has surrounded Death Stranding since its launch is one that points to the fact that it is more of a movie than a game, something that fits perfectly with Hideo Kojima’s historic desire to make the leap into the world of cinema, and we recently they learned that he would finally materialize. The question, of course, is where he’ll find the time for it, since he’s already working on both OVERSOSE, his joint project with Microsoft for Xbox Cloud (and which could have been from Google Stadia), and the recently announced Death Stranding 2.

Be that as it may, Death Stranding is a game, an experience worth having. The result can be immensely satisfying, overwhelmingly disappointing, or somewhere in between. After all, who spends money on a game without knowing if they will like it? (says the one made with Cyberpunk 2077 in pre-sale)? In this case, there is no problem, because the rumor spread throughout the morning, accompanied by some image that Death Stranding will be Epic Games’ Christmas Day gift game.

Will Death Stranding be Epic Games' Christmas present?

You already know that during these weeks Epic Games is giving away a game every 24 hours, at the time of this report and until 17:00 (Spanish Peninsular Time) you can get with Metro Last Light Redux. It’s rumored to be succeeded by Hideo Kojima’s latest title within the next 24 hours, although it’s unclear whether it’s the base version that arrived on PC in early 20202 or the director’s cut, much more recent on PC, as this he made the jump earlier this year. However, with precedents like Control in mind, it is most likely that the 2020 version will be given away and the 2022 version will be offered at a special price.

Be that as it may, even though we’ll have to wait until 5pm to confirm (or not) that Epic Games is giving away Death Stranding (this reminds me a lot of when the rumor spread that the Fortnite Creators Store was going to give away GTA V , something that has finally been confirmed), my recommendation, especially if you haven’t tried it yet, is to stay tuned to the Epic store and in case it is confirmed to get it and experience it . Like I said before, you can love it, you can freak out, and probably any other option in between. Even though I already have the Director’s Cut (and of course the original) on Steam, I wouldn’t rule out getting this next version as well.

And if that’s the case for you, if Death Stranding is confirmed to be a Christmas gift from Epic Games, you download it and try it out for the first time, I’d love to hear your thoughts after your first contact with the game. But also if you’ve tried it in that time, if you’ve put more hours into it than you’d like to admit, or if you refuse to try it for whatever reason, I’d love to know your opinion and/or your reasons, wait for you in the comments.
