American newspaper Financial Times (FT) reported plans of Taiwanese chip manufacturer TSMC to build the first factory in Europe.
According to the information obtained, in early 2023, TSMC will send its senior executives to Dresden, Germany, to discuss the possibility of opening a factory with authorities and suppliers.
At the same time, the possibility of government support for the future venture and the potential of local suppliers – whether they can keep the entire logistics chain running smoothly will be relevant. However, it was not specified whether this state support would be at the state or regional level.
In June, it was noted that Taiwan and the European Union held high-level talks on trade. It was especially about the opening of the European TSMC factory. But literally within a week, the company announced that it has no concrete plans to open such a business.
The company gave the same response to the FT release. “We do not rule out any possibility, but there is no concrete plan at the moment”– said the Taiwanese processor manufacturer.
