The Polish Ministry of Defense purchased two surveillance satellites and a receiving station from Airbus Defense and Space for a total of 575 million Euros.
The relevant agreement was approved in Warsaw by the Ministers of Defense of Poland and France Mariusz Blaszczak and Ukrinform correspondent Sebastian Lecornu.
When these satellites are put into orbit in 2027, the Polish military will use satellite images from the constellation of the Pleiades Neo satellites, which are at the disposal of Airbus company from next year.
Access to these images will allow the Polish military to strengthen its ability to observe objects with optical accuracy of up to 30 centimeters.
“This is extremely important potential, which complements everything related to deterrence and early warning, both in the military and civilian sphere,” said Blaszczak.
He noted that once the purchased satellites are placed in orbit, the Polish satellites will cooperate with the French satellites, which will guarantee better surveillance efficiency.
In turn, Lecorniu stressed that the signing of the agreement will significantly strengthen the intelligence capabilities of the Polish armed forces. He added that the current situation shows how important it is for each country to be autonomous and independent when assessing the situation.
“Space is increasingly militarized, becoming more and more important for military operations and assessing the situation on the battlefield. I assure you that we will provide excellent quality service and equipment,” Lecornyu said.
Polish and French ministers also reported that they discussed the issue of aid to Ukraine.
As you know, Lekornia will visit Ukraine on Wednesday.
The satellites purchased by the Polish Ministry of Defense from the Airbus company will provide the opportunity to monitor the situation in an area of 2 million square kilometers with optical accuracy up to 30 cm.
