It is possible, even probable, that this is the first time you have read about CNN +, a recent and brand new streaming service for the popular news channel. I would like to say, yes, that I do not mean the Spanish version of CNN, which has been present in Spain for several years by the Prisa group. Both projects have only one thing in common and soon it will only be a memory of the past. And yes, it’s recent and soon it will be history.
CNN + was launched on March 29, just three weeks ago, and her proposal was to offer informative content for 24 hours over the Internet with streaming. An interesting and ambitious proposal, because it is firmly committed to live performances with the technical invoice that we normally associate with television broadcasting, rather than internet broadcasting.
Also, at prices that are common in the United States, this was not a particularly expensive service, his monthly fee was only $ six a month in addition, as an initial offer to date, it has been offered at a discount for new accounts, which have reduced it by 50%, so at the time the subscription cost was only three dollars. Three dollars a month for information updated 24 hours a day, with a global reach that CNN has and that has been added to CNN +, seems like a very competitive offer.
However, we know this today from the group itself CNN + will close its gates on April 30. It lasted one month and one day. A term so short that it undoubtedly deserves analysis. And yes, over the years we’ve been able to see how several streaming services have had to end up, but the one that does and announces it before the first month of life is over is surprising.

As we can read in the article published by the group itself, the reason for this immediate cessation would be CNN’s change of leadership, which became part of the WarnerMedia conglomerate. And it is so that if the previous management of this new platform trusted, then Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav believes that this is contrary to his plans, which are to place all the company’s brands in a single transmission service. And what kind of platform is it? The service we told you about more than a month ago.
According to the announcement some of the content currently offered on CNN + may remain on the group’s platformbut not all, to the extent that the company itself confirms that employees of the new service will have 90 days of employment and a salary, a period they can use to explore other options within the group.
It is certainly quite surprising that the project was launched if the acquisition was already underway and Warner’s plans were at odds with CNN’s exclusive content platform, and this also forces us to question the amount of subscriptions the platform would receive during those first weeks.
