Alienware will introduce a 500 Hz monitor at CES

500Hz refresh rate monitors are the fastest the industry currently produces. There are very few on the market, but the range will be supported next year, and models like the Alienware AW2524H, which Dell will show at CES 2023, are already in development.

The monitor uses a technology panel FastIPS, which, in addition to a very high refresh rate, will offer better display quality than typical TN panels. Its screen has a diagonal of 25 inches and the native resolution is FHD.

The Alienware AW2524H will have a native clock frequency of 480Hz via Display Port, but will reach 500Hz with a little overclocking. It will also have RGB backlighting and an ergonomic base with height and rotation support. It is obvious that it will be exclusively competitive games and its price will be quite high.

500 Hz monitors, everything for gaming

It must be said that specific gaming monitors are not the ones that offer the largest screen size. Nor image quality, native resolution or color palette support. But it has to be the best in other sections like update frequency (also known as refresh rate).

Let’s remember that a high-end graphics card can generate a high frame rate per second (FPS) and that should be transferred to the screen without image fragmentation, judder, flickering, input lag and other display defects that degrade the experience.

Monitors have maximum refresh rates that start at 30 Hz, and in the case of gaming ones, they offer ranges that we can place between 120 Hz and 360 Hz. Of course, you can play at any and this refresh rate is also variable, but the maximum peak is important for support for displaying images on the screen at the same rate as the number of frames it receives at any given moment.

Increasing this trait has its counterparts. On the one hand, the native resolution is usually reduced because it is not possible to offer 360-500 Hz in higher resolutions. On the other hand, high-end graphics cards are needed, the price of which is also very high.
