Scientists have discovered an unusual problem caused by social networks

Scientists from Trinity College Dublin discovered that constant distraction in social networks prevents a person from falling into a state of deep boredom. The study was published in the journal Marketing Theory.

Deep boredom is a severe state of boredom accompanied by feelings of emptiness and anxiety. According to scientists, such a common situation encourages people to find a new hobby and develop creative skills.

Researchers recruited 15 people who were either on vacation or working from home during the pandemic. Participants gave structured interviews about how they spent their time during the pandemic and how they felt.

People in the study who experienced deep boredom found that it caused feelings of anxiety and emptiness. It also encouraged them to develop new skills and hobbies.scientists recorded.

But the researchers found that diving into deeper boredom was blocked by social networks.

“The problem we observed was that social networks distract people from boredom and self-indulgence. German philosopher Martin Heidegger said that boredom is an extremely important part of life and needs to be developed. But modern technologies prevent it. Maybe that’s why all the beautiful thoughts in our souls come to our minds. It’s coming – there’s just no phone there.”– founded by scientists.

In future studies, the scientists plan to delve deeper into the investigated topic.
