Apple was sued in the US. New York resident Alex Morales initiated the lawsuit.
Adam claims that the pulse oximeter function in the company’s smartwatches, which is used to determine the oxygen saturation level in the blood, does not work correctly in dark-skinned people.
According to Morales, he used an Apple Watch with heart rate monitoring from 2020 to 2021. And according to the plaintiff, Apple knew about the problem all this time but took no action to fix it.
In his case, the “victim” referred to a study that showed that pulse oximeters gave black users inaccurate readings, potentially putting them at greater risk of disease.
Recall that in 2015, Apple acknowledged that the heart rate sensor in the Apple Watch may work incorrectly for some users, including those with age spots or tattoos.
