Google Chrome will increase security

Google Chrome is preparing an option to block dangerous HTTP downloads. As the HTTPS protocol becomes more common on the internet, Google is preparing to introduce a security option in its Chrome browser that will block “unsafe” downloads over HTTP.

While HTTPS encryption used to be only required for privacy-sensitive websites like banks, it is now the default.

The company recently added a switch to “Always use secure connections” in Chrome’s security settings. If you accidentally navigate to an insecure version of the site, the browser will try to switch to the HTTPS version. If there is no safe version, a warning will appear on the screen asking if you want to continue.

According to a new code change and accompanying statement, Google will expand this feature to protect Chrome users from all potentially dangerous HTTP downloads. This will block downloads from any link: If you click on an HTTPS download link and that link redirects you to an insecure HTTP server and then makes a final HTTPS connection, Google Chrome will still block the download as it is not secure. Likewise, if you’re browsing a website that’s only accessible via HTTP, Chrome blocks all downloads from that site.

However, as with other ways to block unsafe websites and downloads in Chrome, you can bypass the blocking. So it’s more of an irritating warning to make sure you know what you’re doing.
