Microsoft’s smart glasses will go to the US army

The US government will buy 10,000 smart glasses from Microsoft for its military. This was reported by ArmyTimes.

According to media sources, the US military plans to start using mixed reality headsets widely in 2023. The smart devices will be delivered under the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) program with an estimated budget of $22 billion.

It is reported that the army will supply 5,000 headsets directly to the troops and the same number of headsets to the unnamed operational and training units. The smart glasses were developed based on the Microsoft HoloLens device, it will allow the military to use augmented reality, night vision and target detection option.

According to the authors of ArmyTimes, the US Army was supposed to receive the goggles by the end of 2021, after which the deadline was pushed back to September 2022. However, due to technical issues and the need for revision, the mixed reality title could not be delivered on time.
