Apple, how could it be otherwise, is already preparing iPhone 15, the next generation of its smartphone line. Because of this, the first rumors are starting to appear about its possible features and improvements over previous generations, starting with SoC A17 which would improve energy efficiency and thus increase the autonomy offered by the battery.

The production of the future A17 SoC would once again be handled by TSMC, a Taiwanese company that manufactures and supplies not only for Apple, but also for many great tech companies in the sector. AMD actually relies on the Taiwanese company to make both Ryzen processors and Radeon graphics, while NVIDIA has commissioned it to make the chips used by Ada Lovelace (GeForce RTX 4000).

Apple’s marriage to TSMC began in 2014, when the Cupertino giant decided to move away from Samsung. The relationship between Apple and TSMC should be sustainable in the long term to see the good quality and reception of products launched at a general level, not only with respect to mobile phones, but also some PC-oriented processors that have given the company with a bite of the apple a clear advantage over its competitors, to see that it seems that they are willing to burn themselves for Windows, which has proven to be a disaster on this front (at least so far).

As for TSMC, The Taiwanese company has reportedly started mass production of its next-generation silicon based on its 3nm manufacturing process. Said silicon, according to the chipmaker, allowed for a 1.6-fold increase in transistor density to offer superior performance to chips made with the 5nm process and Reduction of energy consumption by 30 to 35 percent.

After the iPhone 14 generation, which generally left employees somewhat cold, Apple could take note of taking more risks with the iPhone 15 and introducing more tangible changes and improvements. However, the A17 SoC aims to be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, while the standard variants would continue to use the A16 SoC used by the iPhone 14 Pro. Mango? The answer to that question, at least for now, seems to be up in the air.
