Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile system “Berest” – increased its power to destroy enemy targets

BM-21UM “Berest” is a Ukrainian rocket salvo fire system of 122 mm caliber. The system is built on the basis of the KrAZ-5401NE cargo chassis and the modernized BM-21 “Grad” launcher. Instead of 40 missiles in the Grad launcher, the Berest launcher has 50 missiles.

The Berest BM-21UM system is a deep modernization of the Grad BM-21. “Berest” has a number of advantages in comparison with “Grad”:

  • While the cockpit houses all the computation, in Grad some of the combat computation is in the open seats behind the cockpit.
  • the launcher Grad has 50 rockets instead of 40.

“Berest” was produced by Shepetiv Repair Plant. It is alleged that only Ukrainian components, including the chassis, were used in the production of “Berest”.

RSZV “Berest” is equipped with a two-row 4-door cabin without a hood. The cabin houses the calculation of the combat vehicle and all the necessary fire control equipment.

Jet installation “Berest” is equipped with a digital fire control system, which allows the crew to make preparations for ignition, in particular for topographic reference, without leaving the cockpit.

Also, “Berest” is integrated into the information exchange system on the battlefield – real-time calculation of the MLRS, from drones, counter-battery radars, etc. Receives the coordinates of the incoming enemy.

According to sources, “Berest” has satellite navigation equipment CH-4215 from “Orizon-Navigation”.

Tactical and technical characteristics of the BM-21UM “Berest”:

  • speed – 90 km/h;
  • range – 600 km;
  • wheel formula – 4×4;
  • full weight – 17200 kg;
  • fuel tank – 2×165 liters.
