The “Observatory” mobile application developed by Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KRDAE) was introduced. Thanks to the application is uninterrupted access to current, historical and detailed information about earthquakes in and around Turkey.

The free mobile application called “Observatory” developed by Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute was launched. With its user-friendly interface, the Observatory informs users about earthquakes in and around Turkey in the fastest possible way.

EARTHQUAKE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY USER

The application also provides the ability to access the seismic history data of any point or user location in Turkey. In the Observatory, which contains detailed data on all earthquakes that have occurred since 1900, map bases obtained from various sources such as Google Maps and the Directorate General Maps are also accessible.

The application, in which earthquake information is automatically refreshed at ten-second intervals, immediately reports all earthquakes that occur in Turkey and its immediate surroundings. The observatory also provides users with many options, such as filtering earthquakes based on their low, medium and high intensity and examining intensity maps.

The Observatory mobile application also provides users with a 12-question survey about how they felt after an earthquake. The data sent to KRDAE through these studies will support future scientific studies by facilitating the determination of where and how the earthquake was felt, and the geographic distribution of its damage or effects.
