American company Tesla reported a record volume of electric vehicle deliveries in the last quarter of 2022, but it turned out to be less than analysts expected.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to Forbes.

The company announced that it delivered 405,278 vehicles to customers worldwide in the quarter ended December 31, up 47% from a year ago.

However, this was less than the expected 418,000 units based on analysts’ average estimates. Annual shipments totaled 1.31 million units, compared to just under 1 million in 2021.

In the fourth quarter, manufacturing in China, the company’s largest source of profit, faced challenges related to the change in the country’s policy regarding COVID-19. This has also affected the economy as a whole, causing domestic demand for electric vehicles to slow, although battery-powered vehicle exports from China remained strong.

Meanwhile, experts say Tesla’s outlook for 2023 is uncertain, given CEO Elon Musk’s Twitter obsession and concerns about significant sales in Tesla stock, which has deprived the company of focused leadership amid intensifying competition in the electric vehicle space.

Combined deliveries of Model 3 sedans and Model Y hatchbacks totaled 388,131 vehicles in the fourth quarter, with 17,147 units of upmarket Model S and Model X vehicles priced at $100,000 or more, according to the newspaper.

The company’s shares fell 69% in 2022, closing the year at $123.18.

As reported, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the company will not sell its shares in the next two years.
