Twitter has announced that it will expand the types of political ads that can be run on the social network, apparently reversing the global political advertising ban that was implemented in 2019.

The company also said it would relax its “reason-based advertising” policy in the United States. Twitter will now align its advertising policies with those of “television and other media”.
Twitter banned political ads in 2019, and other social media companies like Facebook have come under widespread criticism for allowing election-related misinformation to spread on their platforms. The company has also limited ads for social causes.
At the same time, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey wrote that his company believes “the communication of political messages should be earned, not bought.”
American billionaire Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in October. After that, he made a number of changes in the company and laid off a large number of employees.
Musk specifically said that from now on only paid subscription owners will be able to vote for significant changes to the social network’s policy.
