ASUS unveiled a huge update to its gaming laptop lineup at CES. Under the elite ROG line, there are at least a dozen models from the Zephyrus, Strix and Flow series. ASUS also introduced other TUF series notebooks, ROG desktop models in ATX mid-tower and tower formats, complete with the new monitors we introduced to you this morning, including the first on the planet with 540 Hz.

ASUS ROG Notebooks (2023)

In this post, we will focus on the two main lines of gaming laptops, because they are huge, as we have already seen in the presentations of other manufacturers. Top laptops they want to replace desktop computers and they are definitely getting it because of its huge potential. ASUS ROGs have been completely updated with 13th Gen Intel Core processors and dedicated NVIDIA RTX 40 Mobile graphics, as well as AMD Ryzen 7000 on some models.

The increase in performance and ever slimmer designs forced all manufacturers to do so improve cooling systems. ASUS uses liquid metal as a thermal compound along with a cooling system with seven heat pipes, a full-width heatsink and a vapor chamber (depending on the model). The top of the range will have up to three fans and integrated filters to prevent dust and fibers from entering.

The company has also incorporated vents for better airflow. Additionally, when the CPU and GPU temperature is below 50/60 degrees Celsius, the system turns off all fans and offers a 0dB ambient cooling solution.

Another excellent innovation of the new ASUS ROG notebooks is the screen, which the company has called “Nebula”, which uses a Mini LED panel, with HDR, up to 1100 nits of maximum brightness and up to 1024 dimming zones. All will be equipped with NVIDIA Advanced Optimus technology.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus

We really like this line from ASUS, which offers great performance in a thin and light design that can be used on the go anywhere but the desktop.

Zephyrus M16. It is the new star of the series, and its advanced design is demonstrated by its weight of only 2.1 kg, excellent for its performance and screen size.

ASUS offers a choice of two panels 16 inchesstunning ROG Nebula Mini-LED (HDR QHD+ (2560 x 1600), 240 Hz / 3 ms, 100% DCI-P3) with G-Sync, Dolby Vision and PANTONE Validation or IPS QHD+ (2560 x 1600, 240 Hz / 3 ms , 100% DCI-P3, also Pantone verified, with Dolby Vision and certified for G-SYNC synchronization technology.

The internal configuration offers a new generation of Intel processors up to Core i9-13900H and a graphics section with a dedicated NVIDIA RTX 4090. The customer can choose to use up to 64 GB of DDR5 4800 MHz memory and 2 TB for storage with PCIe 4.0 SSD.

Connectivity is also at a high level, with Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB 3.2, HDMI 2.1 output, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, among others. Its keyboard is backlit chiclet and the audio system is powered by 4 subwoofers and 2 tweeters. Top model for demanding users who want the best for a desktop computer and for mobility.

Zephyrus G16. Another model with a 16-inch screen, with the possibility of mounting the IPS panel that we saw from the previous model and another more modest FHD+ (1920 x 1200), 165 Hz / 7 ms, which should be much cheaper. You can equip processors up to Core i9-13900H and in the dedicated graphics section up to NVIDIA RTX 4070. The memory is also reduced to a maximum of 48 GB, while maintaining the storage and connectivity of the previous model.

ROG Zephyrus G14. For those looking for a more compact model, ASUS offers this version with a 14-inch screen, which includes another high-flying panel, the Nebula Mini-LED (HDR QHD+ (2560 x 1600), 240 Hz / 3 ms, 100% DCI -P3) with G -Sync, Dolby Vision and PANTONE Validation. IPS panels are also available as an option. In this version, the manufacturer has committed to the new Ryzen 9 ZEN 4 in combination with NVIDIA graphics up to RTX 4090, 32 Gbytes DDR5 RAM and 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.

ROG Zephyrus Duo 16. ASUS has also updated its “Duo” version with the aforementioned Mini-LED or IPS displays from the Zephyrus M16. It is powered by Ryzen 9 ZEN 4 combined with NVIDIA graphics up to RTX 4090, 64 GB DDR5 RAM and SSD up to TB PCIe 4.0. Connectivity is complete with this aluminum and magnesium model with the dual screen characteristic of the version.

ASUS ROG Strix

The Strix series has remained the performance flagship within ASUS ROG notebooks, and now it counts as a great new addition with a new 18-inch model that is the ultimate in notebooks and is the size we see at CES from other manufacturers.

ROG Strix SCAR 18 and 16.

A redesign of the chassis that adapts to the largest screens allowed the mounting of 16 and 18-inch screens with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and several panels to choose from, up to Nebula Mini-LED (HDR QHD + (2560 x 1600), 240 Hz / 3 ms, 100% DCI-P3) with G-Sync, Dolby Vision and PANTONE Validation.

The manufacturer has improved the cooling performance of these new chassis, allowing more space for the CPU and GPU to increase the maximum frame rate. They are now equipped with an extra strong full-width cooler, Tri-Fan technology and liquid metal for more efficient waste heat removal.

Inside, the configuration we see at the high end is repeated, with a new generation of Intel processors up to Core i9-13900H and a graphics section with dedicated up to NVIDIA RTX 4090. You can equip PCIe 4.0 with up to 64 GB of DDR5 4800 MHz memory and 4 TB of storage SSD.

As for connectivity, it offers, among other things, Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB 3.2, HDMI 2.1 output, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Its keyboard is a backlit chiclet and the audio system includes four speakers with Dolby Atmos. The care taken by the manufacturer to control the weight of these laptops should be highlighted, namely 2.5 and 3.1 kg respectively.

ROG Strix G16 and G18. Variant of the previous ones with some “reduced” components. And we put them in quotes because they have enormous potential. The screens can be IPS or LCD, while the processor remains up to Core i9-13900H, graphics up to RTX 4080, 32 GB RAM and 2 TB SSD.

ROG Strix 17. Another model that already existed in the catalog, which has now been updated with AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 processors and NVIDIA graphics up to 4090. It can fit up to 64 GB of DDR5 memory at 4800 MHz and 2 TB for storage with SSD. Its screen offers a single 17-inch IPS panel with QHD (2560 × 1440 pixels), 240 Hz / 3 ms, DCI-P3 100%, with G-SYNC and Dolby Vision. Connectivity is as complete as before with the exception of Thunderbolt 4 reserved for the Intel platform.

Undoubtedly a very complete line from the manufacturer that sells the most gaming laptops on the planet. And that we’ve only seen the Zephyrus and Strix series in this post…
