Japanese company Sony introduced a prototype of the new Afeela electric cars, which it will create together with the Honda company.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to Reuters.

The prototype was presented at CES 2023, the tech show in Las Vegas.

The electric car will feature rounded corners and a sleek black roof, and will use technology from Qualcomm Inc (QCOM.O), including a Snapdragon digital chassis.

“Achieving smart mobility requires constant software updates and high-performance computing… To that end, we will work closely with Qualcomm,” said Yashuhide Mizuno, executive director of Sony Honda Mobility.

Qualcomm on Wednesday unveiled a new Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC that performs both driver assistance and in-cab functions, including entertainment. The Qualcomm executive said that previously these functions were performed on different chips, and combining them could help cut costs.

According to Mizuno, the Afeela electric car will be equipped with more than 40 sensors. The maker of the Fortnite game series will use the Unreal Engine, the 3D rendering tool from Epic Games.

Sony Group Corp and Honda Motor Co Ltd plan to deliver their first electric vehicles in North America in early 2026.
