At CES 2023, AMD introduced the first artificial intelligence engine on x86 processor. Right after, Microsoft’s product director, Panos Panai, said that these features are the future of Windows. “AI will redefine the way you do everything on Windows”– Says the head of the Windows development department.
Detail
Panos Panai is responsible not only for Windows, but also for Microsoft hardware – for example, the development of Surface products and related hardware. CEO Satya Nadella is listening, so it’s definitely worth considering when he says artificial intelligence is the future of Windows.
Unfortunately, it didn’t go into detail about how Windows could use advances in artificial intelligence. It seems that the company, which is currently developing the next version of the operating system, is not yet ready to reveal the details, as the work is far from complete. The only known feature about AI is that the PC webcam can add background blur, detect eye contact and automatically frame someone during a conference call, all while using much less battery. Panay also talked about natural language models.
What is known about AMD development
At the same CES 2023 show, AMD announced its new Ryzen 7000 mobile processors. The company boasts that these are the first x86 chips to feature a dedicated AI engine. 20 percent faster than used in Apple’s MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip.
But the Ryzen 7000 won’t dominate the market for long. Meteor Lake from Intel will be released later this year – similar technologies will be added there as well.
