Whether it’s creating virtual characters that can express human emotions or even creating virtual worlds, professionals around the world are reaching new heights with 3D workflows. Animators, creators and developers can use new artificial intelligence (AI) tools to recreate 3D environments, simulations and the Metaverse: The 3D Evolution of the Web. Based on the universal scene description structure (U.S. dollar), NVIDIA Omniverse, a computing platform that enables the development of metaverse applications, is being expanded with improvements to Blender and a new set of experimental generative AI tools for 3D artists.

In a special presentation at CES 2023, NVIDIA is announcing these features, along with Omniverse preinstallation on NVIDIA Studio laptops and new free USD graphics to help accelerate the adoption of 3D workflows.

Marcio AguiarNVIDIA Corporate Director for Latin America, comments:

“Artificial intelligence has already become a part of our daily lives and can now make life even easier for many professionals in the field of design, engineering, creativity and industry around the world. NVIDIA innovations streamline the entire creative process, helping to free up more time for the strategic and creative areas of a variety of projects.”

In addition, the new version of Blender, now available in the Omniverse Launcher, brings generative 3D AI capabilities to all users. The new panel allows people to submit keys for managed shapes and symbols. Previously, replacing the severed head of a manipulated character was a more difficult task, requiring extra effort from the professional. This time just press the button on Universe Audio2Face, An AI-enabled tool that automatically generates facial expressions from an audio file. In addition, the new scene optimization panel allows users to easily create USD scenes in 3D workflows using multiple real-time applications.

Still, Audio2Face, Audio2Gesture and Audio2Emotion, the generative AI tools that enable instant animation of 3D characters, are receiving performance updates to make it easier for developers and creators to integrate into 3D pipelines. Creators can create facial expressions from an audio file using Audio2Face; emotions, from happy and excited to sad and disappointed, with Audio2Emotion; and realistic upper body movement with Audio2Gesture. These sound animation tools are essential for 3D artists, removing the need for manual tasks.

AI-powered creative tools are expanding in communities of creative and technical professionals of all types. When NVIDIA Canvas was released, it allowed artists to create landscapes and seamlessly replicate them using brush strokes and artificial intelligence. All RTX users will soon be able to download the Canvas update, which introduces 360 3D rendering, environment creation and conceptualization with associated panoramas and images. AI ToyBox, with extensions sourced from NVIDIA Research, allows creators to create 3D meshes from 2D inputs.

Omniverse AI tools make professional demands easier

Omniverse AI tools make complex tasks easier. Creators of all levels can use these resources to produce results that meet the growing demands for content and virtual worlds in the Metaverse.

Jay Solina aka JSFilmz comments:

“Demand for 3D skills is skyrocketing, but learning 3D can be quite challenging for some and definitely takes time (…) But these new platform developments not only allow creatives and technicians to continue working in their favorite 3D tools, but make them work more productive. and even use AI to help them with their workflows.”

Omniverse Launcher, the portal for downloading Omniverse content and help applications, was also made available for pre-installation by system developers, providing a streamlined and innovative experience for 3D creators on NVIDIA Studio-verified laptops.

Omniverse users can also access thousands of new USD free artwork, including the USD-based NVIDIA RTX Winter World Minecraft game. And learn how to create your own NVIDIA SimReady art assets to create complex simulations. With Omniverse, creators can accelerate existing workflows using familiar tools such as Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max, Blender, Adobe Substance 3D Painter and more, with AI, real-time RTX-accelerated rendering and modeling tools.

All types of 3D creators can take advantage of these new tools to push the boundaries of 3D modeling and virtual world creation. Users can reimagine digital worlds and animate characters with new creative possibilities by connecting sound animation tools, generative AI and the metaverse.

Latest Omniverse platform updates

The latest Omniverse updates include:

  • Early access to the Unity Omniverse connector is available;
  • The alpha version of Blender, available in the Omniverse Launcher, allows users to correct geometry, generate automatic UVs, and replace high resolution CAD data with usable polygon points;
  • Audio2Face, Audio2Emotion and Audio2Gesture are getting new updates for instant and realistic character animation, now available in Omniverse Audio2Face and Omniverse Machinima.

NVIDIA Canvas will soon be available in the Omniverse Launcher with new features that allow you to create 360-degree landscapes with simple brush strokes. Users can import environments into 3D applications to test different settings and lighting.
