“After seven years of development, Apple Inc. is almost ready to launch its first mixed reality headset,” the message reads.

The plan is for the company to introduce the device to consumers, possibly under the Reality Pro name, and then give developers the opportunity to speed up the software as early as June. If all goes according to plan, the finished product could go on sale this fall.

Apple is reportedly giving access to the innovation to a small number of well-known software developers to start testing and work with third-party apps. The operating system of the device, which the company calls “Borealis”, will be publicly called xrOS.
