Exosonic will supply the US Air Force with new supersonic drones to be used as part of exercises to simulate dogfights with potential enemies. Russian Su-57 and Chinese Chengdu J-20 fighters are considered such competitors.
For several decades there has been a dedicated fleet of F-5 and F-16 warplanes that have long been used to simulate the purpose of enemy military aircraft. However, with the advent of fifth-generation fighters in Russia and China, the F-5 and F-16 ceased to adequately represent modern targets, which complicates the training of US military pilots and does not allow simulation of modern air combat. Exosonic has taken on solving the problem – it will provide Revenant supersonic drone simulators to the US Air Force.
High flight speed is only part of what Revenant has to offer. Exosonic also plans to equip the simulator with systems found in modern warplanes – they will have an active phased antenna array, a high-speed data link (like the F-22 Raptor), and an infrared search system.
The Revenant will receive a turbojet engine, and externally, the UAV will be something between a cruise missile and a fighter without a cockpit. It will be able to reach speeds of Mach 1.2 (1481.76 km/h) – this is enough to simulate the speed of most frontline fighter aircraft. No further information about the project is given as it is partially kept confidential. Source
