It’s no secret that there are ads in Windows 10 and 11. These are the so-called hints that can be seen in the Start menu. Now, with everything in mind, Microsoft is considering adding recommended content to its Explorer app. This was the conclusion reached by a Twitter user alias @XenoPanther, who posted a screenshot of the folder options window in the file manager with the corresponding option.
This is the configuration data for the latest versions of shell32.dll.mui and propsys.dll.mui. User @XenoPanther discovered a new option called “Show Suggested Content” under the General tab under Privacy. Another user with the alias @PhantomOfEarth believes this has something to do with the addition of two new features in test build 25267 that were forcibly disabled in build 25272. They can be activated using the ViveTool app.
There is currently no information about this feature, so we can only speculate how it will work. Explorer can show users specific folders and files or use it as another way to promote their software like Microsoft, Edge browser, OneDrive cloud service or Microsoft 365 office service. Suggestions in the navigator can be turned off.
By the way, Microsoft recently wanted to implement site suggestions in the Start menu, but decided to abandon the idea.
