Roscosmos decided to return the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft, which docked to the International Space Station, which had an accident in the thermoregulation system on December 15, to Earth without a crew.

As reported by Ukrinform, the government agency announced this on the Telegram channel.

“Experts concluded: Soyuz MS-22 should land on Earth without crew. The “Soyuz MS-23″ (ed.) launch on February 20, 2023 in unmanned mode,” he says.

Thus, Roscosmos plans to return cosmonauts Sergei Prokopyev, Dmitry Petelin and astronaut Francisco Rubio, who are currently on board the Soyuz MS-23 ship, whose launch was delayed from March 15 to February 20. Previously, it was planned to send cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko, Mykola Chub and NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara to the ISS with this ship.

On December 15, 2022, the ship Soyuz MS-22 experienced a depressurization of the external circuit of the radiator of the thermoregulation system. The official version of what happened, provided by the Russian agency, is a meteor strike.

“Soyuz MS-22” docked with the ISS in September 2022. This flight was the first flight within the framework of the agreement on cross flights to the ISS signed between Russia and the USA in 2022.

The crew of the Soyuz MS-22 was supposed to stay on the station for six months. The end of the mission was scheduled for March 28. During this time, the crew had to make five spacewalks. On December 15, one of them was canceled for technical reasons.
