Some Radeon RX 6000s suddenly crash and the driver seems to be the culprit

A German graphics card repair shop that has a YouTube channel clearly and precisely confirmed, a spike in revenue from crashed Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards. It is still not clear where the problem is, but the situation is obviously serious, because in total the service received 60 defective Radeon RX 6900-6800 graphics cards, and 48 of them had the same defect and were impossible to fix.

I know what you’re thinking, maybe there was abnormal or inappropriate use of these graphics cards, but according to the source, that wasn’t the case, in fact some users saw their Radeon RX 6000 die when they were doing something as simple as playing a YouTube video, so the workload does not seem to have any relation to the failures experienced.

The 48 graphics cards that could not be repaired ended up in the hands of this professional in the last three weeks. They all had things in common, they would suffer severe short-circuits that would render them completely unusable and unfixable, and they used the same graphics drivers, the new Adrenalin 22.11.2 WHQL. It has also been confirmed that in some cases, when removing the contact base that connects the GPU to the heatsink, part of its encapsulation broke off and remained stuck to said base.

Radeon RX 6000 crashed

All this tells us very important things point to a possible culprit, the new Adrenalin 22.11.2 WHQL drivers. It’s likely that these drivers were released with some important bug that disabled the thermal protection system that prevents it from reaching excessive temperatures that could literally fry the graphics card. This would also explain why the GPU package on some of those faulty Radeon RX 6000s got damaged to the point of breaking.

Other Mrproblems related to correct voltage and current settings in the VRM, which would also make sense seeing that serious short circuits were confirmed as we said earlier. However, there are still many questions on the table, so I strongly recommend that if you have a Radeon RX 6000, do not update to the Adrenalin 22.11.2 WHQL drivers until things are cleared up.
