It is noted that the company’s engineers are already actively working on the project, which indicates that Apple is seriously considering the possibility of producing Mac computers with touchscreens for the first time.

According to current internal discussions, the company may launch its first touchscreen Mac in 2025 as part of a more comprehensive refresh of the MacBook Pro.

Apple’s first touchscreen MacBook Pro is expected to retain the traditional laptop design, including the standard trackpad and keyboard. However, a laptop screen will support touch and gestures just like an iPhone or iPad. Over time, Apple may expand touch input support to more models of Mac computers.

At the same time, it is noted that the launch has not yet been completed, so plans may change.

As part of the MacBook Pro update, Apple also plans to switch its displays to organic light-emitting diode or OLED technology. The company currently uses LCDs, liquid crystal displays in Mac computers, but the iPhone and Apple Watch use OLED technology. These displays have improved brightness and color and will also be used in the iPad Pro in the first half of 2024.

For over a decade, the company has argued that touchscreens don’t work well on laptops, making the iPad a better option for touch users. Apple also worries that touchscreen Macs could slash iPad sales.

An Apple representative in Cupertino declined to comment on the report.
