The first MacBook with a touch screen is in development and could hit the market in a few years, says a Bloomberg editor, usually very well informed about the goings-on at the Cupertino headquarters.

Industry, consumers and the media are surprised that a company like Apple did not enter the convertible market, which has become a very important segment within the large notebook group, but whose offer comes only from Windows. Apple tried to cover this with the iPad Pro tablets, since they are a replacement for laptops, once accessories such as keyboards and a stylus were added. But they are obviously not the same.

The first MacBook with a touch screen

unhappy Steve Jobs didn’t want to see (or paint) this type of product at Apple. because they were “ergonomically awful” and came to compare convertibles like “combination toaster and refrigerator”. Indeed, a genius had his hobbies and was not always right. He also didn’t want to develop large iPhones or add stylus pens to his mobile devices. And many years before, when the first iPhone was launched, it refused to include third-party applications. (If only I could see the App Store bill today…)

All these decisions were overturned over time. And it is because Apple innovated like few others, but at the same time copied the strategy of others and finally kept up with the market. Adding digitizers to Mac laptops may be Apple’s next, de facto entry into the convertible market.

Bloomberg says that many Apple engineers are involved in the project, suggesting that the company is serious about making touch-controlled Macs. We don’t know what type of design it will be, if it will only add a touchscreen to begin with, or if the company will make a completely new device in the form of a typical convertible device with 360 hinges and more functions from a tablet to a laptop.

This new feature would be in line with the MacBook Pro refresh for which Apple they plan to use OLED screens. As for the operating system, the first MacBook with a touchscreen would continue to use macOS and not iOS or a tablet variant. We will tell you. Would you buy a MacBook with a touchscreen? Do you think it would increase laptop sales or decrease iPad Pro tablet sales?
