The Royal Mail of Great Britain (Royal Mail) was attacked by hackers-hijackers linked to Russia, who for several days stopped the circulation of shipments abroad.
This was reported by the British BBC news service, Ukrinform reported.
“Royal Mail asks users not to try to send any items to other countries because their computer system is down,” the message said.
The massive cyberattack was announced this Wednesday. The computer systems the service uses to process and track overseas shipments have been hacked. Virus Affected software at six Royal Mail offices, including a processing center in Heathrow, near London.
It is also recorded that hackers used the Lockbit program. It was developed by criminal groups linked to Russia, according to companies specializing in computer security. At the same time, the whereabouts of the attackers are not yet known.
As reported, in November last year, US authorities accused a person with dual Canadian-Russian citizenship of orchestrating a cyberattack using Lockbit. At the same time, it was determined that the man carried out his attacks from Canadian territory.
Ransomware blocks data on computer systems, after which hackers often demand ransom in cryptocurrencies. They usually set a deadline after threatening to release the stolen files.
