The US intelligence community has announced an increase in the number of sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) by military personnel. The agency said this provides a better understanding of natural and man-made events that occur in airspace. ABC7 TV channel reports this.
According to a new report released by the Department of National Intelligence on January 12, 366 Unidentified Abnormal Events (UNA) have been reported since 2021, significantly more than the 144 reported in the initial report. At the same time, about half of them were given an explanation, while previously it was possible to explain only one case.
It turned out that 26 UFOs were unmanned aerial vehicles, 163 were balloons or similar objects, and six were optical illusions. Officials said that overall, there is no evidence that all reported UFOs have a supernatural origin, but 171 cases warrant further analysis as the UFOs inside them show unusual features or potential flight characteristics.
The increase in reported observations is said to be due in part to efforts to debunk the NAIA issue and to recognition of potential risks associated with aviation and national security.
