These days we talk about the end of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 and how to move towards upgrading Windows 11 or at least towards Windows 10they are the only way out for those who are still using versions that will become obsolete very quickly, as the abandonment of their support by third-party software becomes current.

Of course, jumping to a Microsoft-supported version is not only urgent because you’ll run out of updated apps to use: if you don’t update an app anymore, poor security practice this can lead to problems, not updating a system, especially a system with a history of Windows, is the worst of bad practices.

The thing is, although practically all Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users have the most suitable replacement in Windows 10, even that will not last much longer: in 2025 it will say goodbye anyway and will again be the only way to upgrade to Windows 11 or, if the predictions come true, Windows 12. Both will connect as the underlying problem will still exist.

And that problem is none other than those damn Windows 11 requirements and the drama they bring. And it is not normal that millions of computers around the world, in which Windows 10 works perfectly, cannot even aspire to update or install Windows 11… unless they skip the measures that Microsoft has implemented in this regard with tools like Ventoy, Rufus or others.

It would be logical that users with, for example, components – processors that are not “supported” by Windows 11, or that do not have a happy TPM 2.0 chip, could not run any particular system function. However, preventing the system from being used on this type of device makes no sense, no matter how many excuses are thrown around in favor of security or whatever.

So we got to the point where There are only a few maintenance versions of Windows anymore and not by much because one’s days are already numbered. The point at which Windows 11’s requirements are a problem for its employees as well, and one that seems unresolved anytime soon.

For the record, Microsoft has already relaxed its claims and is gradually expanding the scope of support for Windows 11 in relation to supported processors, even as it washes its hands of the consequences of not doing everything as recommended. That’s the power of the thing none of this is really necessary for Windows 11 to work properly.

So all the sticks under the wheels of users who would like to upgrade to Windows 11 but can’t because the requirements of their machines prevent them from doing so, in practice no. Those who have done it on their own with tools like the ones above know because they’ve seen it first hand. Although Microsoft says that it is not responsible for any problems that may arise (as if it should take care of meeting the requirements…).

However, not all users are willing to make the leap manually. It’s like installing Linux, alternatives abound for many use cases: you have to do it yourself. And it costs; you have to worry about it. It is much better to recommend buying a new PC, which many people cannot do. And they stay that wide. We’ll see what happens from 2025.
