Today, January 15, the American company SpaceX plans to launch secret military satellites into Earth orbit using its powerful Falcon Heavy launch vehicle.

This was reported by Space.com, Ukrinform reports.

The launch was assumed to begin from Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 17:56 on January 15 (January 16 at 00:56 Kyiv time). It will be broadcast live on Space.com.

The current Falcon Heavy mission, designated USSF-67 for the US Space Force, involves launching the classified military Continuous Broadcast Augmentation SATCOM 2 communications satellite into stable orbit approximately 35,700 kilometers above Earth.

However, the rocket will launch the Long-Term Propulsion ESPA (LDPE)-3A spacecraft, which can carry up to six small satellites.

Sunday’s launch of the USSF-67 mission will be the fifth in a row for Falcon Heavy, which made its maiden flight in February 2018 when SpaceX owner Elon Musk’s Tesla Roadster was sent into space with a mannequin named Starman in the driver’s seat. seat.

Falcon Heavy last flew into space in November 2022 on the USSF-44 mission for the US Space Force, classified as USSF-67.

Falcon Heavy consists of three modified first stages of the SpaceX-developed Falcon 9 launch vehicle bolted together. The central booster is topped by a load-bearing upper stage.

Falcon Heavy’s first stages are reusable just like Falcon 9s, so the two side boosters for the USSF-67 will be fired a second time, the first time they were used on the USSF-44.

According to calculations by SpaceX engineers, these two side boosters should return to Earth shortly after launch. The central booster will not return, it must safely fall into the Atlantic Ocean.

As Ukrinform reported, on January 10, SpaceX launched the Falcon 9 rocket with 40 broadband satellites from rival communications company OneWeb.
