Apple, at its best, revolutionizes the markets in which it operates. The MacBook Air is just another example in a long list of geniuses that came out of Cupertino and were, more or less quickly, adopted by the rest of the industry. From revolutionary devices to design philosophies that have become de facto standards over the years. Like it or not, everyone is watching Apple.

I’m not saying, until I’m accused of it, that everything Apple does is right. As a user of the brand for many years, I have no qualms about criticizing them when I think they’ve made a mistake, and as it turns out, all my publications over the years are there. On one occasion there was someone who described me as fan boy society, but in fact I am far more critical of it than anyone who deserves such a description.

The original MacIntosh, the iMac, the iBooks (which were followed by the MacBooks), the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad… the list is quite extensive, and in all cases other technology companies followed suit. And that is of course very positive, as well as when it happens in the opposite direction, that is, when Apple takes design elements from other technology companies and adds them to the design of its own products.

A few days ago, on his anniversary, we commemorated the introduction of the first iPhone, one of the most historic moments of Steve Jobs on stage, in a presentation full of the most interesting anecdotes, such as the fact that Jobs’ prototype failed with a fair shotgun and that it was a great happiness and relief for many, that everything turned out well in the end during one of Apple’s most memorable keynotes.

And today we celebrate another anniversary, in this case, a MacBook Air that is 15 years old. Apple, which was also introduced on stage by Steve Jobs, boasted in its press release that it had designed the thinnest laptop in the world. And it was completely true, because its ultra-compact design (gave the designs a go-ahead unibody) without active cooling elements (another surprising first) allowed a PC with a 13.3-inch screen and a full-sized keyboard to be condensed into a body only 1.9 centimeters thick, beating the Toshiba Portege R200’s record of 1.98 centimeters. .

When you first see the MacBook Air, it’s hard to believe that it’s a high-performance laptop with a full-sized keyboard and screen. But isJobs said during the presentation. And it was so true that it was hard to believe, although we had the opportunity to try it for the first time, as it really was, because let’s remember that it equipped an Intel Core 2 Duo processor up to 1.8 GHz with 4 MB of L2 cache, 2 gigabytes of RAM and an 80 gigabyte hard drive. Nothing, but not bad considering we’re talking about 2008.

You either remember what followed, or you probably imagined it: the design approach of the original MacBook Air began to catch on with the competition, which gradually moved to unibody chassis, passive dissipation and maximum use of space to offer lighter notebooks. but in which performance was not penalized. Something that a few years later gave rise to the Intel Ultrabook specification that had such an impact in the world of mobility.

You already know the rest of the story, MacBook Air is one of the most successful products of the brand and has undergone endless changes and innovations during these fifteen years. For example, we told you a month ago that Apple is working on the first model of this family that will make the jump to 15 inches, moreover, in June of last year, it was one of two systems in which the Apple M2 chip is expected. So with 15 years behind us and no surprises, we can say that the MacBook Air still has a lot of life left in it.
