American company SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket was launched into orbit with secret USSF-67 satellites for the US Space Force.
The mission’s main payload is the Continuous Broadcast Enhancement SATCOM 2 (CBAS-2) satellite launched into a stable orbit approximately 35,700 kilometers above Earth. However, the rocket launched the Long-Term Propulsion ESPA (LDPE)-3A spacecraft, which can carry up to six small satellites.
The launch of the USSF-67 mission will be the fifth for Falcon Heavy, which made its maiden flight in February 2018 with SpaceX owner Elon Musk’s Tesla Roadster launching into space with a spacesuit-clad Starman dummy in the driver’s seat.
Falcon Heavy last flew into space in November 2022 on the USSF-44 mission for the US Space Force, classified as USSF-67.
Falcon Heavy consists of three modified first stages of the SpaceX-developed Falcon 9 launch vehicle bolted together. The central booster is topped by a load-bearing upper stage.
