The external drive in the new version of PlayStation 5 is most likely not compatible with the original model of PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. About this in a new material for the Insider Gaming post said Insider Tom Henderson.

Henderson wrote that some Sony engineers have already taken samples of the new model. He did not specify why the disc drive in the new product did not fit the base PlayStation 5, but did not rule out that in the future the incompatibility could be fixed with the help of a Digital Edition firmware update.

Another source from Henderson is about the performance of the new PlayStation 5. According to him, it will be the same as the main console. The only thing that will change in the innovation will be the design and weight of the device. Also, the 2023 version will get an additional USB Type-C connector to connect the same disk drive.

It is not known exactly when Sony will offer a hardware update for the PlayStation 5. But according to Tom Henderson, this will happen in the first half of 2023.
