Yes, you read it right. Those waiting for the start of 2023 to watch all DTT channels in HD quality, unfortunately you will have to wait although your television is fully prepared for it.

On 17 January, the Spanish Council of Ministers approved a Royal Decree amending the obligations regarding Digital Terrestrial Television, the most direct consequence of which was a delay in the entry into force of this obligation. We won’t be able to enjoy it until February 14, 2024.

The lack of up-to-date televisions is the main reason for this delay.

“Not all televisions are adapted for DTT 2 or DVB-T2”. This is the main reason why the mandatory high-definition DTT has been postponed in our country, as the government itself has explained. And certainly this measure is fully justified, because if it takes effect immediately, all old tvs would stop having available channelsSince SD versions will be completely banned.

Even if we don’t like it, the truth is what’s before us. Perhaps most of us already have full-fledged televisions to watch these channels in high definition without any problems, but that doesn’t mean: Many other people do not have the ability to access it.

Actually, the infrastructure for the deployment of this measure is fully ready for it however, given the circumstances, the Government has decided to take advantage of the 26 GHz frequency band for car factories, to deploy indoor 5G networks for use in ports or industrial sites.

Then, High-resolution DTT for everyone will have to wait (at least) a little over a year. It may not be the most popular measure, but it is clear that this is the case and we need to adapt to it.
