Windows 11: Microsoft is testing a new audio mixer for the operating system

Microsoft has begun testing a new audio mixer for Windows 11. Build 25281 of the operating system, available to members of the Windows Insider program, contains a new audio tool that can be accessed directly from the taskbar.

Notepad gets tab support in Windows 11

The new audio mixer offers the possibility individually control the sound of applications, as well as change the sound output. With the new sound tool, the user can easily control the sound of various applications, for example, increase the volume of the browser and at the same time reduce the volume of another application.

Interestingly, the tool provided by Microsoft for Windows 11 is very similar to EarTrumpet. The popular sound tool developed for Windows seems to have been mostly “copied” or rather embedded directly into the operating system. The creators of the tool, Dave Amenta and Rafael Rivera, worked for Microsoft. Rivera made a humorous post about the similarities of both applications.

Windows 11 keeps updating

Windows 11 receives regular updates with new features. It’s interesting to see how Microsoft is building a more modern audio tool that’s easily accessible and offers users hands-on control over applications. In addition to the audio tool, Microsoft recently added several bug fixes and news to the Task Manager in Windows 11 build 25276.

The update, available to Windows Insider users, completes the design of the Start menu search bar, adds advanced tools to the Task Manager, adds a new error message for app incompatibilities, and fixes issues with the voice access tool. At the moment, we don’t know when the new audio mixer will be available to all users, but this change should please those using Windows 11.
