MEGA is celebrating and the point is that time flies and ten years have passed since the company became the known hand of Kim Dotcom himself, who shortly after abandoned the ship in his own style, wrapped in controversy. However, the service continued to operate… to this day.
Today, as they remember in a press release published a few days ago, which coincides with the tenth anniversary of its launch, MEGA laid the foundations for encrypted cloud storage and a zero-knowledge policy accessible from the browser. more than 270 million users in more than 250 countries worldwide.
The number of users, however, says little about the true state of MEGA, given that it celebrated 200 million users at the end of 2020 and that it does not say how many are paid; but that together they collect more than one exabyte of data on the company’s servers. Servers that are no longer limited to New Zealand but are spread across data centers in eight other countries.

These dates and others like it are what you will find in the linked note, but this MEGA-marked reminder is not only to congratulate themselves on what has been achieved, but also to announce their plans for the future, and they are really interesting ones for various user niches. For example:
- MEGA desktop applicationwhat we used to know as MEGAsync, the desktop file storage and sync client, has a new version in development that will release a “new and sophisticated sync engine” that is now being tested.
- On the other hand, MEGA implements FUSE supporta technology known among Linux users, but compatible with other systems, thanks to which it is possible to connect external storage units (that is, to the cloud) as disk units.
- MEGA will also implement file sync on android, which allows you to sync mobile files as if it were a computer. The most interesting feature to arrive in 2023, only for Android, yes (iOS limitations prevent the implementation of this feature).
- Another MEGA novelty for this year is the development of a new application, spol password manager integrated with MEGA end-to-end encryption.
Other plans for the future are to expand their data centers with Asis, improve tools such as MEGA Chat or launch MEGA S4a professional storage method compatible with the Amazon S3 protocol.
