Usually, Apple’s best-selling smartphone is the base model of the previous generation, but this year the system “failed.” Already in the first quarter, the iPhone 13 series surpassed its predecessors both in terms of overall performance and in terms of the popularity rating of a single model.

According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), in the first quarter of 2022, 71% of all Apple smartphone sales in the US came from the 13-series models. The basic version of the iPhone 13 was recognized as the bestseller with 38% of all devices sold.

Sales of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max were roughly equal, with the iPhone 13 mini accounting for just a few percent. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 are still in high demand, which at one time also outperformed last year’s series in terms of sales.

Analysts noted that users began to change smartphones. Last year, about a fifth of buyers used three-year-old and older devices – now iPhone owners are actively changing their gadgets to new ones. Now, according to statistics, 47% of American buyers use a device that is no more than two years old. Of the older models, the iPhone 11, 12, XR and SE (2020) are the most popular.
